Standing alone in a corner at the Frieze New York art fair, Melter 3-D by Takeshi Murata is a chrome sphere that utilizes strobe lights to make the sculpture appear in a constant state of flux.

Solid Craftsmanship: Melter 3-D by Takeshi Murata

Takeshi Murata, a digital artist, used CAD software to generate the strobe light patterns to create the illusion. The lighting is synchronized with rapid spinning to create the impression that the sphere is melting. The illusion is so effective that onlookers expect the T1000 to rear its head and appear at any moment.
